merrymakers vinyl test pressing

i didnt even know that was a thing.

i bought 2 of the proper releases (just because), but my brother got me a copy of the test pressing for my birthday yesterday. gave it a listen today. its weird because it sounds the same, but its just the tiniest bit faster than the regular album releases. i thought 'carlotta' sounded a bit faster, so i got spotify out and synced up 'flagpole' and sure enough, it didnt take long before the album started to pass the stream.

it was cool, though. almost like listening to it for the first time. anyways, searched the internet to see if there were any others (only 20 made), saw one on discogs for $50. not anything special, really, but, should anyone else be interested in it..

Cosequence of Sound Top 50 from 1997

A nice little writeup at CoS has Merrymakers at #50 from that year in their 20-years-ago (!!) retrospective:

Quote:It’s far too little and much too late to say that Harvey Danger deserved better than the 99-cent bin and being known chiefly for a hit song that most people don’t even know the correct name of. (“Isn’t it ‘Paranoia, Paranoia Something’, honey?”) Record label reshuffling not only left their remarkable sophomore album, King James Version, in extensive limbo but, worse yet, killed any momentum the band had mustered from chart-smashing single “Flagpole Sitta” (that’s it, sugar!) and their little ’97 debut that could, Where have all the merrymakers gone?. The shame is that record, rough and ragged as it spins, revealed a Seattle band cut from a different swath of flannel than their post-grunge alt-rock brethren. Led by nerdy-looking frontman Sean Nelson, Harvey mixed snottiness and distortion with the cultural chutzpah to quote Moby Dick (“Old Hat”), allude to Bob Dylan (“Problems and Bigger Ones”), and nod at Alfred Hitchcock (“Carlotta Valdez”) without ever surrendering their right to shred the occasional heartstring. The fact that it all started ending almost before it began? To quote Nelson, “It’s a damn shame.”

Kicking Me Out Of the Band finally answered.

Okay, so, I have finally figured out something that has been a question for me since 2013 when I first heard "Kicking Me Out of the Band."

He sings "Keith, Kurt, John, Richard, Lou and Elliott..."

Well, I figured out Keith Richards, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Lou Reed and Elliott Smith. I couldn't figure out Richard. Well, I finally straight up asked Sean on his fb page. And he posted a picture of Richard Manuel, deceased member of The Band.

So, in case you didn't know, now you do. Maybe you guys figured it out and I'm just dense.

Been a while since I've even visited here.

So, I'm trying to improve upon my Harvey Danger music CD collection. So far, I've got:

Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?
King James Version
Little by Little
In-Store Play Sampler
Cream and Bastards Rise
Little Round Mirrors

The other albums/EP's/etc. are rather difficult to find and a few (I believe) have been lost in time or otherwise unheard of. These include:

Flagpole Sitta
Private Helicopter
Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas (Sometimes)
Dead Sea Scrolls*
1994 Demo Tape
1996 Demo Tape
Unreleased Stuff

*I know that Dead Sea Scrolls is available for download on harveydanger.com, but that doesn't really help here. Anyway, I don't intend to sound as if I'm begging for someone to help me find these lost pieces of media, but if anyone has any idea of the whereabouts of these albums, please let me know. Peace!

Unreleased Stuff Snippets

Apparently, in "Unreleased Stuff" are 3 tracks labeled Snippet 1, Snippet 2, and Snippet 3 (named accordingly, I reckon). I've found the other tracks on the CDr but have had no luck finding the 3 snippets. If anyone has them, can you please link them to me or send through PM? Thanks.

Okay this is like the third thread this week I've started but oh well. So I was watching the Harvey Danger live performance in Chicago on Youtube (the video was taken in 2009). Anyway, Sean mentions Dead Sea Scrolls being a CD, but it was sold out at that time. I can't find the CD on eBay or any other shopping websites. Is there anyone here that I can buy the CD from? Thanks yo.

Also, Sean's birthday is tomorrow so be sure to wish him a happy birthday.

Does anyone have an mp3 of this track? I recently changed computers and uploaded all my files to an online storage system, and for some reason this track was lost in the shuffle. The old TBM site's link is also down for this one.

Still my favorite HD cover, and if it wasn't heresy my favorite HD song.

Remember Where Have All the...of course you do. But do you remember any of the songs that the band suggested could go on the album? The following songs were either played only at old Harvey Danger concerts or were just lost in time:

Foot-Controlled Activator
Main Line**
Lester Ballard*
Rolling Roads
Lidsville Lunchbox
Portland or Hell
Wedlock

*Lester Ballard WAS found on the internet and can be found on YouTube as a live recording.
**Main Line was also performed at a concert but cannot be found on the internet (I don't think).

Let's talk about Unreleased Stuff

One of the rarest HD memorabilia was released in 2003 and was titled "Unreleased Stuff". Great name, if you ask me. In fact, the CDr was so great that it wasn't even worthy of an image on the disc (sarcasm, but I don't doubt that it's still a good album anyway).
And, just about every song on the album is accessible on the internet (this includes Carjack Fever, which can be found on another thread). That is, except for the 3 snippets and the Altered Solo version of Save it for Later. If you have access to those songs, then you could very easily recreate Unreleased Stuff, including its lack of album art. So yeah, send links of the songs mentioned and the album will be complete at last.

What happened to Foot-Controlled Activator? Are there any recordings of it, live or recorded? Let me know

Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I only use the HD forum when I'm looking for some lost piece of Harvey Danger-related media. And let me say, the users out here are great at helping find what I'm looking for.

So, this week's What-can-batfan01-look-for-today is the Fuel soundtrack from 1997. The only tracks from it I could find anywhere is Carjack Fever and Purple Ivy Shadows' "Just as Soon". So, if anyone could help me find the remaining tracks from Fuel, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Underground by This Busy Monster (and Cool James)

So, there are two threads about TBM's Underground. I downloaded the song and loved it, as did all the other listeners (I hope). But of course, my dumb ass deletes the mp3, and when I go to re-download it, both links are broken. Can someone please link the mp3 in the comments? Thanks guys.

Also, about Cool James (completely unrelated to the Underground issue). Is it a summary of a movie or some piece of media unrelated to Harvey Danger? After analyzing the lyrics, it has a Carlotta Valdez-y feel to it, what with the movie plot in the lyrics and all. I know that Cool James was written and recorded around the same time as Merrymakers, so it all kinda adds up. Let me know what you think.

I never made it to any of the Harvey Danger live performances, because by the time I heard of them, they had already broken up. That said, I don't have access to the legit DSS CD. I downloaded it from their website, and I'm glad I did, but I'm trying to make my burned-to-CD copy look official. Does anyone have the disc art or the back/inside cover art for the CD? If so, PM me. Thanks.

Where can I buy "Make Good Choices"?

Hi, recently I remembered that this album existed and how much I loved the title track. I used to be able to find the CD available for purchase, but I never bought it and now I can't find the CD for sale anywhere!

Does anyone here know where I can buy a new copy?

Thank You :-)

Thank you guys

Since joining the HD forum, I've discovered a lot of information and media I never knew existed. And that wouldn't be possible without contributors like you. Thank you.
